Just out of interest I've dropped in on a couple of these lately. Apart from the fact that it's really been a pleasant surprise how good the story lines are I was intrigued by the Klingons. They appeared more like Mongols than their present incarnation. There wasn't any of that furrowed forehead or even bigger size, they just looked like humans but, like I say, similar to Genghis Khan 'n all that.

I treated myself recently, I bought the 3 Box-sets of the Original Series. Still very entertaining to watch imo.
As I understand it, the Klingons vs. the Federation was analogous to the Cold War. Hence in the last of the "Original Cast" Films, filmed around the time of the end of the Soviet Union, Berlin wall etc., they began to become friends. Also, I should imagine that the reason why they weren't heavily made up is that there was a tight budget on the original series anyway ! |

Awwww the Tribbles. The DS9 episode that mixed footage from the original episode was superb. Cleverly done.
As for my favourite series, I don't mind admitting that I loved them all, even the last one, and have seen every film. It was a good idea though to stop when they did, as it did need a rest. There are a few things being done though, like for example the "Star Trek: New Voyages" series, which despite being done by fans, has some good special effects, and they are currently filming a new episode starring Walter Koenig, Aka Chekov. The same people are also involved in some other Star Trek stuff, but this particular one is being Directed by Tim Russ (Tuvok in Voyager) and stars Mr Koenig too, Nichelle Nicholls (Uhura), and a few other people from various incarnations of Star Trek. All this is only available via the Internet - for free - and all done for the love of it, and no backing from Paramount whatsoever. The only new "Real" Star Trek on the Horizon is the the 11th Film, which is due to appear in 2008, and is being done by the man behind Lost, JJ Abrams. If I didn't have new Stargate SG-1 episodes to watch instead, I would have to go cold turkey. |
