Making a CS 1.6 Server problem.

Well so far I've set up the server all the way after updating it and making the shortcut for easy access to start it up. But after I start up the server and when I try joining or my friends try to join it, a messege box comes up saying, "your version does not match the servers". So I was basically wondering how do I fix this or if you might know what I did wrong.

Find the hl update tool and update your 1.6 server files. Is this a non-steam version?

I tried connecting to it using Steam and Non steam. And if your talking about the dedicated server, I'm not sure if its non steam. And when I try to update it only like 3 lines comes up saying checking/intalling version 26 or what evere then the cmd prompt thing just closes.
