crosshair skin

i was wondering how does the cs crosshair work? wat code controls it. i know so far that it is separate from weapons binds, since you can change its size and color and the weapons skins contain only a few attributes.
my rel question is how do i change the crosshair, like its shape aka crosshair skins?
