Downloading & Installing:
First off, Download the latest mIRC. mIRC: Download mIRC Its only a few MBs all links are in the UK, so it should be a quick download for most! Obviously, your next step is to install mIRC on your machine... I am sure you can handle this yourself. 1)Wait for mIRC to load. 2) Enter Name, Email, and 2 Usernames. 3) Click Favorites. 4) Your faves list will pop up. 5) Click Add. 6) Add Channel name and click add. Examples below. #1on1.css #2on2.css #3on3.css #4on4.css #5on5.css #6on6.css 7) Select quakenet from the servers available, and press ok. 8) Press ok again. 9) Press join. 10) Wait for channel to load. 1) When the channel loads, you will see names along the right side. If you double click these, you will enter private chat with that person. You could do this to find matches, but chances are most people will be away or in a match, so it could take some time to find a one like this. 2) In the chat line at the bottom of the window, this is where you type your match advert. 3) When you finally get someone to take your advert, their name will pop up at the top of mIRC. Click the flashing red button to enter chat with them. 4) This is where you finalise details and pass over server IP and password. After passing details, you can leave mIRC minimized while you play the match, it wont affect your ping, and will help to follow up people who dont join, say if there is a mistake in password or ip given. Finding a match that suits you can be easy or difficult, depending on what you put into your advert. Firstly, you need to state how many players you would like for the match [1on1/2on2/3on3/etc]. This may seem pointless since you should be in the right channel anyway, but in my clan, we sometimes play 3on4 or 4on5. Secondly, you must add wether your on your own server, or wether you want to play on theirs. This is done by using 'servON' for your server and 'servOFF' for their server. Third, you need to let them know your skill. Now we all can think we are pretty good, but I would strongly suggest asking for a LOW match first, as you do not yet know your skill level. But you can advertise for MID or HIGH matches if you feel like it. If you do not believe yourself to be LOW, MID, or HIGH, you can mix and match, like LOW/MID or MID/HIGH. This can also be done like this LOW++ or MID++. With ****s bein able to put LOW--. I am sure you get the drift. Fouth, tell them what map you want, are put 'map-any' to let them choose. But remember, if you let them choose, there is a chance they could pick a map that some people have troubles with, like de_nuke or de_prodigy. So you could also put 'anything but nuke/prodigy'. And lastly... This is not of major importance, but helps you to find a match with a good ping. Let them know where you are in the world, the closer they are, the better the ping will be on the server! This is good, so that they cant complain they lost due to lag etc. Do this with just a few letters or the full name of your country or kingdom. UK/US/GER/FR/NL [United Kingdom/United States/Germany/France/Netherlands]. As I said, this final step is not a necessity, because if you cant get anyone to accept your match, u may have to look further out. So you should end up with a line like this to go through mIRC 5on5 / servON / LOW / map-ANY / UK Thats all you need to know. If you are smart, you would have no trouble using this guide. -Element |
