Default Free vs Paid

Hi,
I am thinking about purchasing a public counterstrike source server, and I was wondering what the difference between buying a server and hosting a free dedicated server are.

What are the benefits and (if any) worse things about a paid server?

I know you obviously don't have to have your server running on your computer, so if I shut it down for the night it will still be up. I also know that you install everything so it is quicker and easier than me doing it.

Any other useful information would help too.

Thanks

Also, are there any ways to get people to pay or donate for extra features, such as becoming an admin or having a reserved slot?

If I decide to buy from counter-strike.com i would like to generate some sort of income to maybe add more player slots in the future.

You have lag and you need to spend money on hardware and better bandwidth and that may not work. Professional servers are hosted on machines with quad core processors and lots of space and bandwidth. You get better tickrate with hosted servers, and your free dedicated server might not work. Why try and host a dedicated server, when counter-strike.com offers servers as low as $0.99/slot? That's my opinion. Plus you get FTP access (I think) so you can change anything on your server.

That's true. I do have a pretty nice build with some space and a quad core, but I am sure that counter-strike.com has better as they only run servers instead of having many things installed and running multiple programs.

I made a dedicated server and was running into so many problems trying to configure it and add mods, and I am sure this is so much easier (from what people say).

As for FTP, the demo control panel had a feature to see your whole directory and change the files such as motd.txt. Just as easy as if I did it, if not easier

Most service providers will NOT allow servers on residential lines and will cut your service permanently if a server is found to be running.

Mr.Bob, what exactly are you saying? I am not quite sure I understand

Do you mean my ISP would cancel my internet if it was to find a dedicated server running?

Servers require a lot of bandwidth and a lot of providers are cracking down on people that are consuming too much bandwidth.
