My ISP lets its customers to run dedicated servers, BUT you'd wish they didn't. The connection is so slow, it would lag if someone from the network connects. Then imagine how much it would lag if someone from another town comes in on the server.

Thanks, that cleared it up a little.
I now have a counter-strike.com server

Yes, ISPs will cut your connection for hosting unless you have permission or a commercial account. Comcast is that way.

Grats on your new server.

Yeah I didn't really think of that because I was using my dedicated server with my friend who lives not even 5 miles away. No problems there but I can imagine a person joining from another location being bad.

I've already made it to 8+ people on at once on my server

That's my opinion. Plus you get FTP access (I think) so you can change anything on your server.
Thanks man I needed that ...

Do you mean my ISP would cancel my internet if it was to find a dedicated server running?
Dark john, Happened to me a while ago when i used to be with tascali who are no longer around now, but i run my own server for business and counter strike games with my new digital cable provider and ive had no trouble with them to be honest thinking about things alot of providers(like aol and b.t) use a connection ratio for their customer's so that means if there was 50 people in your area connecting to the same servers at the same time using their servers then re-directing to yours then that would be a problem with latency and bandwith, if your running or planning games from any provider check the upload speeds as well as download speed an check also as some isp's now use fair policy guides which just means they can cap your broadband during peak times and give you a near speed but not the exact speed you need to play for hours,

hope that helps
