Hey their, ive recently thought about buying a server. I know they are pretty good, my friend Bop buys one. I was just wondering about some stuff.

1. Whats Tickrate do?
2. Location? Is this is where the server is hosted from? I live in Ontario in Canada so will I get massive ping? Also whats the closest place to me to get the lowest ping?
3. Will my server always be up even if I or anyone else isnt in it?

4. How can I change the name and add Addons like ASS mod and PHX?

5. Will my computer or your computer be hosting it?

I'm going to first make it clear that I am not part of CS.com customer service so they should not be held liable for any information that I am going to provide besides what I quoted straight from their website which I provided a link to.

That being said, here is the information you needed:

1- Tickrate: Here is all you need to know about tickrate: Tickrate - Whisper's Wiki
2- Location is where the server is hosted, yes. Here is a list taken from: Counter-Strike.com | Counter-Strike Servers, Forums, Maps, Strategy and more!

Q: Where are your servers located?
A: We currently have servers located in Dallas, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Seattle, and London. Test your ping to these locations from the servers listed on the right side of your screen. We are expanding rapidly and if we do not have servers located close to where you live, we will shortly.

What I can tell you is that my server is hosted in Texas and people usually get 60 ping (when they're in Canada). You should pick one of the upper states.

3. If you purchase your server, provided that it is not experiencing any issues (like they are working on the box, etc), your game server should always be up. Mine is up 99.5% of the time from what I've seen with Gamemonitor (a website), etc.

4. There is a Control Panel and FTP access.

5. If you purchase a server, the server boxes that belong to Counter-Strike.com will be hosting it.

Hmm, I live in Oshawa Ontario, What would be the best location to pick to host the server?

Also how can I test my ping in those locations just join a server hosted their and check my ping?

Maybe New York?

Regarding the ping, yes or if you don't have those games, you can download HLSW and just enter their ping.

Oooor you can do a "tracert" to those IP's.

I have a friend in Strath, IDK if that's the right name or what, but he does very well in my Dallas servers. I would think a New York server would be better or a L.A. server.
