The admins, not mods, we don't get site access just the boards , have to run thru it and check it out before it's loaded, then they post it. I would post a note to an admin, like use the contact link at the top, and see what they say. There might be a database error or they may have stopped taking maps while they update things.

As to "stealing" things from maps, I do take bits and pieces from other maps, but then I use that as a base to what I am making. If there is no credits on the map I don't place it in mine, if there is, I add theirs to mine. It's not my problem they don't want credit or helping me out.

I'll post a note asking them what they want us to do since the maps sub forums would be better than having a page on the site. However it has to be a download at your own risk as there are those people out there that post viruses on sites. IDK, I guess it's up to CS.com. I have a maps section on my website as well as boards for my clan. No one else uploads since it's really only me doing the mapping.

... want credit is something, now if they dont want or cant help you out is not an excuse for you to take parts of their maps!!
i dont know what you consider of "take bits", probably one map that really has no credits at all, it's ok.. but if has some credits i think you should first ask for it.. even adding the credits to you final map may not be pleasent to the other mapper...

I'll go into more detail... I'm making a Stargate map. The gate I found had little detail but was very close in size, so I went and decompiled it, grabbed the gate and placed it in an empty map. Then I tore that apart to see what they did to make it. It was basically 5-6 parts, an inner ring, in between two smaller rings, the symbol locks, and the symbols. Now you might think that would be enough for me to use, nope, I like detail. I had to buy the DVDs to make sure the symbols were correct and in the right order, they were not, also some weren't close to being the right shape. I also did some math to get the right size, it was much bigger around. So their gate just showed me what to do, and the basic steps. If I did use their gate I would have added credits, I knew the mapper asked that credit be given to her if someone added to, chaged the map, or used parts, so I added the name. Credit is give if it can be. I don't ask for credit cuz I don't care. I expect my maps to be torn into and I hope they only make them better. lord knows I'm not the best mapper, and most of my maps need a lot of work, I need to add sounds, that's why they're all beta maps for now.

I don't think I have ever just grabbed a part and placed it in my map. I always just use maps for referance. Most I use to see how a tool is used, tutorials really don't always help, but seeing it in a map helps.

Props are the biggest issue I have. I need to learn how to make them because there just aren't enough out there. So far all I have are the ones that come with hammer and the games. That doesn't help when the brushes are very limited to the shapes you can make. I also need to learn how to link a prop to a map so people will download that prop if I add a custom prop to the map. I have all the games but a lot of friends only have CS:S or H-L1 mods, so they don't have the H-L2 props. I get to hear, "What's with all the error signs?" It annoys me.

hmmm.. yup! ok.. seeing it that whay makes it sense! ... i did never though of that: (get some "bits" as you say, or even some ideias or inspiration from other maps) because i dont really experiment many different custom maps! sometimes if i see something that catches the eye i try it.. but when it comes to mapping i just try to think something thats its not already done.. (exploring the entities) as my new one that i believe that is diferent in some point.. and for me, i believe that its that way we must go on, playing with entities, or make the maps more interactive.. i dont know if i'm explaining it well... (in my map, it is supposed to be playing as gods, so we get our health always recharged..also it allowed me to make the Parthenon half the original size, wich would be a giant wide area map., do you get it)

I'd like to make the H-L2 mod come alive with CS:S. maybe even get into mapping the H-L1 maps for CS:S. That would be interesting to see if that could be done. A multiplayer H-L1/2 gamer where CTs play as Gordon or his team and Ts play as the aliens or Breins team. I'm sure I butchered the names!!

Yeah, and here I am trying to convert my old maps from the Quake days (circa 1998 or so), and bringing some of those to CS:S for multiplayer and HL2:Ep1 for single player. Since Quake had that old, Dark Age, gothic theme to it, it's gonna be tough to convert that to a theme that Gordon Freeman or two teams of CT and Terrorist teams would fight through. However, de_arena proved that it was a dated conversion, didn't look like a real Source map, and it showed. I'm definitely going to rewrite that from scratch this time in Hammer, tho, as opposed to porting the geometry and just retexturing it like I did some time ago.
