Well, I did have experience with the HL1 technology, it's basically the same as the Quake engine, since that's almost a direct port of id Software's technology rebranded for Valve. Source does one better, but mapping is almost the same. Most of the changes from Source appear to be mainly in-game, rather than in the mapping process. At least that's how I see it.

FYI: I live near baltimore so I'm going to try to make a map modelled after the Wire.
it's ambitious.. but hell... whats the point of doing something fun if there ain;t no ambition in it. After downloading the Source SDK, I poked around quickly with some of the other tools listed. I take it one these will allow me to modify the "look" of the T or Counter T? |

Dunno about you, but I always had an eye for doing some rather challenging, but easy to make maps myself. If you've played games like Quake 3 Arena, and Condition Zero maps like de_vertigo and as_oilrig, you know where I'm going with this. It's ones where if you don't watch your step, you'll fall an unending fall, you know those ones. Yeah, I'm hoping that Source will allow for maps like that, but I dunno... At least Condition Zero is based off the old technology that will allow you to build the whole outer cube with a sky texture, while having your play area be floating.

You can easily make maps for condition zero from this site by downloading this software from
download com.

My first map I did that by accident when I was rearranging the walls, not realizing that the box I created had a ceiling and a floor. I deleted both not realizing what they were.. heh. ->B |
