Error 1334

Hello,
I purchased CS for my son today and attempted to install it on my pc. I made sure my pc had the correct spects before installation.

When I put in the 3rd disk it ran and ran for a long time. After a while I recieved a message stating the following:

"Error 1334 The file 'source_sounds.gcf. cannot be installed because the fille cannot be found in the cabinet file 'css3.cab'. This could be an error reading from the cd-rom or a problem with this package"

Any one have any ideas about this or have run in to this before and know how to solve this problem.

Since the game has been openned I cannot return it and was told to contact the manufacturer.

I would just go to Steampowered.com and download steam that way. Then you can enter the CD Key they gave you once you have Steam installed. It might actually be faster as there are updates you will probably have to install anyway. Once you have it loaded and working I would either take back the CDs and say it's broken and get a new one or contact Steam and have them replace it for you, but that will take some time.


Suggested route:
1: DL Steam @ Steampowered.com
2: Install with the downloaded file.
3: Let Steam load once installed and make sure it goes to the games list.
4: At the top of the games list go to the menu "Games" -> "Activate a Product on Steam" -> and follow the instructions from there.
5: The products associated with that cd key should be listed in the "Not Installed" section of your Games list. Just double click each one and it loads the latest release.
6: Wait for it to download. This can take some time depending on the traffic the Steam servers have.
7: Bam, you're done, play the game!

The problem here is that he doesn't know exactly how steam works.
Sir, in buying the game, you have actually only bought the cd key that came with it. That is what you are paying for.
The game's files and contents are available for free download via steam; but these files cannot be used without the key. So you actually have no use for the cd you have purchased. Download counter-strike : source off of steam, and activate it; or the other way around, like the fellow up there showed it. That would probably be easier anyways.

wELL i TRIED WHAT MR BOB SAID AND IT SAID "INSERT THE CD" THE LIST CAME UP FROM THE CDROM, NOT STEAM.

So if this doesn't work will I still be able to download it directly from steam and have the opp. to re-enter my key code again ?

I have never had a bad cd or cdrom, guess I'm lucky. Try installing with the cd, if it works great, then the rest of thgis thread can be ignored. If it doesn't install...

Install steam with the download file. Start up steam by clicking on the short cut made on the desktop. If you run steam and have not made an account it will prompt you to do so. Once you have an account you will be able to load the cdkey the way I told you to earlier.
