Hi!
This is Zedd56. Most people who see this post probably won't know me; i don't come to these forums often. Anyways, i am pretty well known among us cheap non-steamers and i have (some time ago) started my own clan. I am the sole leader of [TpK]` and i have been hosting an hlds on another machine for quite a while. I lost that machine a bit later and tpk was dead for about 3 months.... Recently i've acquired another machine on which to host my server. Luckily i still have the files for hlds backed up on my computer. After formatting the machine, setting up an ftp server and uploading hlds, all the admins were still saved and plugins were working great. The server (functionality-wise) has never been better. But performance-wise...... I don't know whether it's a problem on the machine or a bad file in the hlds or just a cvar set extremely incorrectly, but many many players are complaining about horrendous lag, and the conosle was showing lots of overflows. This has never happened on the old server, which i might add, was half the machine the new one is. Mind you, the old machine was a lousy 333mhz/128 ram, the new one is still only 833/128ram (soon to be 512 ram) If anybody can lend me some advice that would be great. Also: steam resources have shown that one problem that may be causing this issue would be a bad cl_updaterate or cl_cmdrate. But this steam article was based on clients not hosts. Any help would be much appreciated -Zedd56 |

oh cmon guys i know theres at least one intelligent person on this forum who is on the same page i am....
or at least reading the same book :S And i think i may have found the solution anyhow. As it turns out, the old server had 256 megs of ram. This changes everything. Now im guessing that this server is glitching out simply because the ram isn't high enough in quantity to handle a server. I'll report back here once i up the ram on the machine. Hopefully it shall end my troubles. (ohbumpbtw:3) |

Ram helps, but what are the server specs as in how many players are you hosting? How full does it get? What maps/mods are you running? Is your bandwidth big enough?

usually between 3 and 10 players.
depending on time-of-day. but this error occurs no matter how many players. also, i doubt bandwidth is a problem, i haf fairly gud internetz. Mods: AMXX HLGuard |
