I just got counterstrike source and tried to lower the graphics on it so that I could play it because my computer isnt that great.
Whenever I try to lower it the screen will go black and a message telling me that it couldn't read the command and then the game terminates. Anyone got any advice on how to get past this problem so I can play the game?

open up your steam and go to games then click on counterstrike and properties and set launch options.in launch options type '-dxlevel 70'.save and exit,if counter strike starts try changing the graphics options before doing anything else.this should solve your problem.friend had same problem and this fixed.if not try changing your screen resolution an see if this helps.

i had a similer problem, except it was cuz i was geting kicked from a server also for having my dxlevel set to 70, i was on a 16' flatscreen, then updraded to widescreen, and CS:S didnt wana work after that, so make sure its not your monitor it's self
