Ring up the console and type ing this.

cl_cmdrate 0

Nothing bypasses hlsw's ping finder and we kick off that number as well. So feel free to type that in, high ping will still be seen. If your ping is zero, you look like you're lagging, and you don't speak English my admins will still kick you if the game doesn't. I agree with Shimzy, it's a load of rubbish. Knowing your actual ping is helpful if your computer is messing up. Just find a local server and play where your ping is already low.
