I'm going to go ahead and make a guide for all you out there not getting 100fps and have potential to.
There won't be any pictures since all your graphics cards are different. But the process is the same! This will only work if you have better than a happy graphics card. IMPORTANT! = Make sure that whatever settings you set your refresh rate at for that resolution, you run Counter-Strike at THAT SAME RESOLUTION. For instance, if you set your monitor refresh rate at 75Hz at a resolution of 1026 x 768 (Or whatever the resolution is), make sure that you RUN THE GAME AT THAT SAME RESOLUTION. You can change that option under the Video Tab in the Game Options Menu. If you don't understand this part, you will after you read the sections. Please post any problems/questions and I will help as much as possible. When posting problems, please be specific and post your graphics card and try to narrow down what type of monitor you have as best you can. Contents Section 1 Getting to display 100 fps. This chapter does not allow you to actually run 100fps, but forces your game to display 100fps whether or not your monitor can handle it. This works for both LCD and CRT Monitors Section 2 Getting 100fps with Vsync on This section will show how to truely display 100fps. Please note that you MUST have a CRT Monitor (OPPOSITE of LCD Monitor). If you have an LCD Monitor, please see section 3. Section 3 Getting the most out of your Monitor. Use this technique only for LCD Monitors or shitty CRT Monitors that cannot have a refresh rate of 100Hz or more. Section 4 Vsync ON and still dropping FPS. This will help enable another rendering method supported by graphics cards to help with framerate lost due to Vsync. --------------------------------------------------------- Section 1 Getting to display 100 fps. Right click your desktop. Then find the properties option and click it. Go to settings tab and click the advanced button. Most Nvidia cards will have a tab or option that states "Performance and Quality Settings" ATI cards will usually have a tab that says "OpenGL options" or something. Go to that tab. Find the option "Vsync" This is short for Vertical Synchronization. Turn this option off. (If you have a high end computer, there will be another guide at the end to have 100fs with Vsync on). Once you turn this off, make sure your settings for Antiscoptic Filtering and Anti-Aliasing are also to OFF. Then turn Image to either Performance or High Performance. Click Apply and you will be back at your desktop. Go to your Counter-Strike game. Bring down the console and enter the following commands: fps_max 101 Your game will now be running at 100 fps even if you cannot display it. "Tearing" might occur. This is because you have not set the refresh rates of your monitor or your monitor cannot support it. Please note that this does not mean you're actually RUNNING the game at 100fps. To RUN the game at 100fps, you must have a decent machine, and follow the next steps!!!! --------------------------------------------------------- Section 2 Getting 100fps with Vsync on Go back to your graphics card tab. (Right-click>>>properties>>>settings>>>advanced) Go back to your Performance and Image Settings and turn Vsync ON! Then find the option for "Refresh Rates". Find a resolution that will run at 100Hz or higher refresh rates. Select that option. NOTE - LCD Monitors CANNOT support anything higher than 85Hz. If you have an LCD Monitor, you CANNOT and NEVER WILL support a true 100fps with Vsync on. After you have selected 100Hz or higher refresh rate for your monitor and Vsync on, click apply. Go to "My Games" tab for steam and right-click on Counter-strike. Click the Launch Options button. In the pop-up dialog, type this command: Code:
-freq 100 Make sure to type this in your console if you haven't done so already: fps_max 101 Voila, you now are running 100fps with Vsync on!!! This means you are truely displaying every single frame the game is producing. You cannot do any better. --------------------------------------------------------- Section 3 Getting the most out of your Monitor. Well, say you have a shitty monitor or an LCD Monitor and your refresh rates just can't make it to 100Hz. (CHECK!) Right click the desktop. Go to the properties tab. Go to Settings, then advanced. Find your refresh rates section and set your monitor to the highest refresh rate possible. Usually caps out at 75Hz for higher resolutions or 85 Hz for lower resolutions. Sometimes, REALLY shitty monitors sit at 60Hz. (The higher the resolution, the lower the refresh rate.) Just for example, we're going to say that our monitor can only display at 75Hz. Set it at 75Hz and then go to your OpenGL/Performance and Settings Tab and make sure Vsync is ON! Click apply. Go to "My Games" Tab in steam and right click on Counter-Strike. Go to properties, then Launch Options. Type the following command with the SAME number your screen refresh rates are at. For our example, it was at 75Hz. So, we would type in the pop up box: Code:
-freq 75 Make sure to type the fps_max command and the number that you have your screen refresh rates at! For our example, we would type: fps_max 75 Now your game will run smoother than ever with Vsync ON and the game displaying as many frames as your monitor can output. -------------------------------------------------- Section 4 Vsync ON and still dropping FPS. Once again, head to your graphics card settings tab. (Right-click on desktop>>properties>>settings tab>>advanced) For Nvidia Users = Go to Performance and Settings. Underneath where you turned Vsync ON, click the drop down menu where it says "Basic Settings" and select "Advanced Settings". Find the option for "Triple Buffering" and enable it. Click Apply and VOILA! Steady 100fps (Or whatever fps your monitor Hz is set at and Vysnc'ed with.) For ATI Users = Go to OpenGL tab. Undernearth the Vsync option, there should be some button that says something with "Compatibility Options" or something like that. Click it and find the option for Triple Buffering and enable it. VOILA! Vync'ed and a steady framerate!!! |
