Knife kill sounds aren't working.

Ok I'm trying to change the sound effect when killing someone with a knife, Ive used both mugmod and knife_sounds addons and tried changing the sound to something already in the sounds folder and it works, but when I make a sound effect or add one into the sounds folder it will download when i get on the server but wont play.

Ive checked file properties on both my sound files and the ones already installed with the game and there properties are exactly the same, so I cant figure out why the sounds aren't playing on the server. is there an option somewhere that i need to enable for downloaded sounds to work or something?


If anyone can tell me step by step what needs to be done to be able to edit my knife kill sound effect and so i can change it to w/e I want, it would be a big help, thanks

its amazing how I get more help on other forums faster or even at all... and yet this is the games own forums. you would think to keep your players happy you would help a little... well please if anyone knows how to solve this problem it would help alot, Ive gotten a few answers on other servers but none seem to be helpful,

Well at the time this was posted I was sleeping, 2:30 AM, so if you want support at 2:30 AM from me you'll have to call me... oh wait, I turn off my phone. Well unless you pay me for 24/7 support you're not going to get support from me at that time of day, not even my customers from my shop can call at 2 am and they pay the big bucks for race support. Now there are plenty of other threads and sites that have the answer. I can find 20 tutorials on this on just FPSbanana.com.

If you want a sound to play you can't just load a file to the server. There's a soundslist.cfg file you have to edit and other files. If all you did was download a sound file and not a full setup with the config file you shot yourself in the foot. You HAVE to make sure you don't just download a file some kid thought was cool and uploaded to some free file host site. You can find GOOD sounds from FPSBanana and good tutorials, also try the CS Wiki:

Indeed, and more so when it's with custom mods. I try not to mod my servers as it just creats more lag and more stuff a client has to download, which can result in less traffic.

The only thing I have is gore mod (moderately) and Mani.

Quake sounds, Mani, Mattie for No Block and Knife Sap, and Meta. We have FastDL and ALL our maps are zipped up so DL is nice and fast, most of the time. I do have some maps I made well over the 40 mb size, but they run well in game which surprises me.
