Default Shut down error?

So I wasn't sure where to post this, but seeing as how this is the CS: Source sub-forum I think it's safe to say this is the place. Okay, so basically my problem is that every time I log into and join a server on Counter-Strike: Source, either the game will shut down completely (without any error message) or my computer will completely restart. There's no clear triggers as far as I can see? Although my processor is quite low, (1.09 GHz), a friend of mine said it could be the RAM, (1.00 GB) being faulty and that I'd need to just unplug and plug it back in, but I'm not entirely sure. Is this a computer problem or game-related? I reinstalled the game once, so I think I can rule that out. No other computer games do it -- although none are as demanding as Counter-Strike mind you. So, any ideas? Solutions? Thanks in advanced, and sorry for the lengthy thread.

Post your computers specs. Go to Start > programs > accessories > system tools > system information.

Also is this a Vista machine?

The cpu should be about a 1.2 ghz minimum and Steam says something like a 2.4 ghz is recommended. Ram should be 256 mb, but 512 mb is recommended, and IDK your video yet, but I would guess you're about 64 mb to 128 mb on the card, if it's not shared. If it is shared memory I would recommended buying a dedicated video card.

I'm not entirely sure, my friend reformated my computer one time. When it loads up it says Windows 7, but I'm pretty sure it's Windows XP.

What does 'shared memory' consist of? Like two computers to a router?

I have no idea. I don't know exactly where to check. I know the hard-drive was reformated from it's original system and that the computer is basically custom built.
