It could be that your computer does not have the resources to support these maps (maybe the maps are too bright, etc - it sometimes happens to some people with de_dust since that map is SUPER bright). I don't really know much about mapping though so I'll leave this for Mr Bob.

Heidy's right, partly. It could be more than just the brightness. An improperly made map can cause you to lag too much, and can even cause the server to crash, although this is harder because the server doesn't have to actually do anything graphically. If the mapper made the map wrong your computer could be "seeing" what isn't there. The props aren't supposed to be "drawn" until you can see them, this happens fast. Not all maps require that the computer do this. Dust is a good example, there's not a lot of props, ie: boxes, barrels, crates, trash, and I think dust one had a cart. Those can, if drawn 100% of the time, take resources. But since there isn't a lot of them it doesn't take enough. Now one of my newer maps that huge, for Zombie players, has probably 500-1000 props, is many levels, and fairly well lit. So I have to make the map right so you don't draw those props until needed.

Now if it's the map there isn't really anything you can do, that's the map makers fault. I would tell you to make sure you have your filters set right so you only see servers with less than 100 latency. This should eliminate server out of your continent. If you are in the U.S. it will not show servers in England and vice versa. Then if that still doesn't help go to the Steam forums and search for "optimizing your computer" or "config settings". Might have to do a lot of searching. Everyone's settings are good for them but not everyone else, so you'll have to play around with them, but make sure you back up what you have now.
