Question Running Counter Strike on Vista 64?

Hello everyone

I just recieved my new computer today from cyberpower.

Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3

Operating System: Vista Home Premium (64 BIT)
Motherboard: EVGA nForce 790i SLI Mainboard FSB1333 DDR3
Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q9550 @2.83GHz - Overclocked to 3.4GHz
Memory (RAM): 4GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB DDR5 PCI-Express Dual DVI-I & TVO

I have installed steam on it successfully but the problem is that counter strike is very laggy for some reason, even when i try on OpenGl video mode. Now I am not sure whether it is something to do with the graphics card or some other vista issue. I have even installed Direct x 10 but i still get the same problem. Assasins creed and Crysis seem to be working just fine but i cant get counter strike to work I have been searching online for hours but haven't yet found a solution. Does anyone face similar problems? Does anyone have any suggestions on how i could fix this problem? It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, I don't have any problems. I do have 5 gigs of memory but I doubt that's the issue though.

Yeah i miss xp!! i would definitely have installed XP but the problem is that my graphics card is 2GB - so only 1 GB of ram will be recognized on XP (Because maximum memory recognized on XP is 3 GB) by the way - Counter strike Source works perfectly! But i prefer CS 1.6 any day - nothing beats the game play on that.

Any more suggestions...? thanks people

Your graphics card is pretty choppy for a 64 bit vista. Maybe if you tried going to your task manager and changing the priority to low, that might fix some of the lag.

How to:
On your keyboard press and hold ctrl+alt+delete all at once.
Then go to processes, make sure CS is open, and find the hl.exe process.
Right click the hl.exe and highlight the "Set Priority" tab and click low.
Just go back in-game and try it from there.
