Software Mode FPS Help !!

Firstly I have a 466mhz celeron and i810 chipset with 128mb of ram ...probably the lowest configuration pc in the cs community .

I normally run the game in opengl 640 X 480 mode and i get about 25-30 fps ... but when somebody nades the fps drops to 5 .

So when i try to run the game in the software mode i only get 10 fps ., which i believe should be giving me more fps than opengl .

So anybody knows why is this happening ?
will buying more ram increase my fps ?

on software mode the cpu takes the graphic calculations from the graphic card
and its always gpu>cpu the same class so everything is ok there
