Some help with a **** to Steam

hey everyone how are ya

Ok here is my problem

I really wanted to play cs online, and then i found steam to download it, but u have to pay to download it, so i didnt. Luckily, my friend downloaded it from steam about 1 month ago, where it was still downloadble.

So he decided to try in ion his laptop coz he was gonna give me the cs. It worked on his laptop!

Alright, so he gave it to me in his USB. However, he only told me to put the "steamapps" folder to wherever i installed my steam.

Ii instealled my steam in my folder, however it is also there in C, AND mine. whcihc is quite confusing.

Alright, ive done what he told me to do, which is copty the "Steamapps" folder to wherever i installed steam. .... So what now? where do u have to go to steam to play games? i went to "my games" and here are a list of games available

counter strike ---status: pre load complete
half life--- status: pre load complete
hl --- shortcut ready
hlds --- shortcut ready.

somone please help, i was so happy and exicted coz my frnd said it actually can work....

Its not going to work unless your using his account, in which case only one of you can play at a time.

ok lets say i install steam the proper way, then buy cs the proper way which is thru steam , i can play it straight away? how do i know its version 1.6 (the latest)?

After that if i want to format my comp, whats gonna happen to the game? tell me if this is right:

i format the comp.
then i download and install steam again, login with my existing account, the game will still be there?

when you buy a game you will get an code(key) and afther you log on a account you can just add it to your games by clicking on the top games->activate a product on steam and then typing the code

once you confirm it you will be able to download the game (or you can just copy to steamapps and relog and the steam will detect your game)

the newest of counter-strike series is counter-strike source

i have both of those games and source has better graphics although i'm a fan of cs 1.6 and still i play it more then the CS:S
