no servers!!!

well i download the game (counter-strike 1.6) but i can't connect ot any servers. im not running it through steam. but wen i open it and click onjoin game takes a couple seconds then says "could not contact master game sever to recieve server list" or somthing along the line of that does ne one know wats wrong or how i can fix it, and if i need to open it through steam please leme know how to do that cause it doesn't even show up in the steam games section.

Sounds abit like my friends problem. Is it your anti-virus? Also DON'T TURN IT OFF. I told my friend to turn it off, but then he got a virus and crashed his computer.

i am having a similar problem. I have cs 1.6 steam and now when i look for servers it says there are none that match my filter. I have nothing set on the filter and i didnt change anything. What do i do?

The ONLY way to play CS 1.6 is through Steam or the WON2 network.

i have the same problem with my steam (original key). i have used a support on valve site and my system passed all tests. i don't know what's wrong with it. there is no firewall block.
when i want to get server list there is: "could not contact with master server to recieve a server list" or "There are no internet games listed on the master server that pass your filter settings" (i have no filters selected).
can someone help me?

I had the exact same problem and message pop up and i fixed it by uninstalling steam and then reinstalling it. Now it works fine and that message hasnt popped up yet.
