i am new to this game and i just want to beable to play versus other people online so how do i get on a server or what do i have to do to just play!

Welcome to our community. In order to play against other people online you need to connect to the steam platform, refresh the server list and connect to a server of your choise.

thanks, now what are the newest versions of counterstrike that everyone is playing and what are patches and so forth for?

Ok, the newest version is CS:Source and the one right before that is cs 1.6 wich you get through condition zero(cs:cz). So wich one do you have at the moment?
