Default 300+ Ping

Hello everybody
I am having HUGE problems with CS lately. The worst is my ping is always 300 or more. I refresh alot but all it does it go up and down 20. I tried restarting my computer but that didn't work.

I know you may be thinking that this has already been posted, but I can't plug in directly to the modem cause my mom and dad's laptops use it, and so does my PS2. I can't get rid of my firewall cause my comp doesn't have anti-virus (dunno why, we used to have McAfee) and there are like 52 infected files

52 infected files?

You should get rid of that first because it causes you to lag a lot. It used to happen to me and my computer was a mess.

You don't have to stay connected to the the modem directly. You just need to test to see if your ping improve substantially. Just wait until no one is using the internet and plug directly to the modem. If your ping is the same then your router isn't a problem and you then know its something with your computer. (Or possibly internet connection, but its most likely computer related).

Defiantly get rid of the infected files. I reformat my computer if a virus scan shows that any of the files on my computer are infected (unless I know what the file is and it really isn't a virus or ad/spy ware).

It might also help to go into command promt and type "msconfig" and there is a tab called "startup"... try unchecking anything on that list that isn't essential, and then restart your computer. It should run faster because it doesn't have as much crap running.
