Default Establishing Network Connection

I've read some other threads. Started a thread over at Steam but got no assistance.

My CS 1.6 hangs when trying to join multiplayer games. I can load a local game and run around like an idiot by myself, but really that's only fun for about 47 minutes then I have to find something else to do.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a Linksys Wireless Router, but this computer is hard-wired directly into the router.

I was previously on Vista before my hard drive disappeared (which is why i'm on Windows 7 now) but I never had issues with Vista.

I've tried deleting ClientRegistry.blob and letting STEAM update but that didn't solve it. I searched for "Internet Download Manager" on my computer and as far as I can tell it does not exist on this computer. Also, there is no IEMonitor.exe running in the background that other threads seem to think causes the problem.

I've also read something about port forwarding, but admittedly I don't know how to do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, this same problem occurs on CS Source, TF2 and TF Original. So I believe it is more of a STEAM issue than a particular game problem.

Thanks.

I bet it's a Win7 issue. Being that I don't have it and this is probably the 1st post asking for help dealing with it there isn't much more I can say to try that you haven't already. Is the router hard wired to the modem?

Some Linksys routers won't give you enough open ports to host a local game.

You don't need a lot of open ports and for the most part you don't need to forward ports for a lan game.
