First, and probably the most annoying..
-My roommate and I are on the same LAN (obviously). Our cable modem is from Time Warner Cable in LA, and is rated between 6-10MBps. We are both connected via a Linksys WRT54Gv2 wireless router. He is connected directly to it, and I am wireless. Not every time (but quite frequently) one of us is in a server, and the other tries to connect to the same one, and the person already in the server is dropped.. and the person trying to connect cannot. If that does not happen (person playing gets dropped), then the person attempting to connect simply times out. The problem is usually resolved by doing a power cycle of the modem and router. My question is.. is there a permanent fix? What is causing this? Secondly, I have semi-outdated system, I know.. but it's also not a piece of trash.. (p4 3.0ghz ht, 1gb pc3200 dual channel, geforce 6800gt w/ latest drivers, and windows vista ultimate). Not great, but should be good enough to run CS.. or so I thought? My FPS is spiking constantly, usually averaging in the 30-40 range.. even less with a ton of action and a full server. My overwhelming suspicion says that Windows Vista sucks, especially with ony 1GB of RAM (disabling anti-virus and aero don't help too much). I also feel that maybe being a wireless client isn't too great of an idea, but I don't get any choke/loss so who knows. Tons of questions for a forum newb, I know, but any help is greatly appreciated.. and I'll try to contribute back as much as possible.. thanks.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

For the router thing, try changing your game port. Go userconfig.cfg and set port to 27016.
Vista always gives problems to CS 1.6. But anyways, make sure that you don't have any background processes that are consuming a lot of your CPU.

Some linksys routers won't allow you to open enough ports to play via LAN. There's a site somewhere that will tell you the ability of each brand of router to do so, don't remember what it is though.
