Red face Hi, a couple of questions!

Hey, I'm new here and I have a couple of questions about the Ping and stuff in counter-strike online play.

1) What exactly is ping?

2) How do you check your ping?

3) What amount of ping is best for online play?

4) Are there any good ways to make your ping better?

Thanks for all the help! I'm also a bit confused about the latency of a server. What is it? Thanks again in advance.

1) ping is the speed of your internet connection (basically)

2) insert net_graph 3 into your console the number next to ping is ur ping.

3) < 70 ping is generally a gd ping but the lower the better.

4) Lower your graphics and sound quality, that may help. After opening Counter-strike go to your Task Manager(right-clicking on windows bar) and 'processes' .Increase priority of your 'half-life launcher' or whichever process runs CS on your computer. Try not to leave any running programs while playing in the background. Burning disks on your PC while playing causes a major lag, unless you got like a really good system.

1) What exactly is ping?
In simple words is a scale from 0 - 400 (it can go alot higher)
of how your connection to the SERVER is. (not how good ur connection is.. u can have 1gb/sec and connect to a 56kb in china ull have a 300 ping).

2) How do you check your ping?
Simply press TAB... ull see it on the LEFT of ur name.

3) What amount of ping is best for online play?
I'd say under 50 for GOOD shooting without lag. and under 70 is still playable.

4) Are there any good ways to make your ping better?

Dont have AIM.. MSN... Yahoo running
no download programs running
no Windows updates
No other software updates..

pretty much anythign that might take up from internet... like youtube or downloading a song... etc.

Ping is basically your connect usually it's much better to have a low ping id say 30-70 is the best.Umm i think if the server is like all the way in the UK and lets say your in america the ping will be high
